Two persons were injured in an attack on a ‘advance team’ of presidential advisers, according to an official.
Garba Shehu, the spokesman for President Muhammadu Buhari, confirmed the shooting in a statement released on Tuesday.
Mr. Shehu, who termed the situation as’sad,’ stated that the attack took place “near Dutsinma, Katsina State, on the convoy of automobiles transporting the Advance Team comprising security guards, protocol and media officers prior to President Muhammadu Buhari’s departure to Daura for Sallah.”
“The terrorists began fire on the convoy from ambush positions, but they were repulsed by the accompanying military, police, and DSS employees.”
“Two individuals in the convoy are undergoing treatment for minor injuries.” All other people, crew, and vehicles reached Daura safely,” he added.
The advance team is thought to have travelled to Katsina to anticipate Mr. Buhari’s visit to the state for the Islamic feast of Eid el-Kabir.
One of the states most afflicted by banditry is Katsina. Hundreds of people have been murdered and thousands have been kidnapped in the state since the election of Mr. Buhari, a native of the state.
In addition to Katsina, the states of Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kaduna have also been targeted by similar attacks.
The attacks have continued despite Mr. Buhari and other government officials’ repeated assurances.
Below is Mr. Shehu’s whole statement regarding the attack on the presidential team.
