When bandits went on the rampage late Tuesday into the early hours of Wednesday, a recently elected councillor in Katsina State was shot dead.
Alhaji Nasiru Magaji, better known as Nasiru B.S, the late councillor, was assassinated at Gozaki, Kafur Local Government Area of the state.
The late councilman was shot at his home and was taken to a hospital in Malumfashi, where he was pronounced dead.
Abdullahi Gozaki, a resident of Gozaki, informed reporters that the gunmen, numbering around ten, also kidnapped the murdered councillor’s two wives, but subsequently released them.
“They attacked at 12:30 a.m. today (Wednesday), killed the councilman, kidnapped his two wives, but subsequently returned them home,” he claimed.
This was not the first time Gozaki town had been assaulted. Last year, there were many kidnappings in the neighbourhood, one of which involved the newlywed spouse of an immigration officer.
Bandits also attacked Funtua, which was still in Katsina. According to witnesses, over 100 armed men stormed Dutsen Reme low cost around 11:00 p.m., where one Buhari Amadu (aka Buhari Michael), a member of Bakori local government council who acted as a vigilante, was shot dead.
During the incident, a youngster between the ages of 10 and 12, just named as Usman, was also slain.
They also invaded Malumfashi’s Dan Rimi neighbourhood, the seat of the Malumfashi local administration, where two wives of a filling station boss were allegedly kidnapped.
