At least 11 persons have been murdered by terrorists in Igama, Edumoga Ehaje district, Okpokwu Local Government Area, Benue State.

Sunday morning at approximately 4:00 a.m., locals reported that terrorists besieged the community and opened firing on the people.

They apparently set fire to nearly every structure in the area.

The villagers said that at least eleven bodies had been discovered during the search for missing persons.

Amina Audu, chairman of Okpokwu LGA, told reporters that she had received three bodies at Okpoga, the local government headquarters, and that six more bodies were being transported from Igama, one of the affected communities.

Audu claimed that the invaders operated in the community between the hours of 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., and that they torched every home in the community.

The chairman further revealed that all of the victims were children, while the elderly and women were permitted to flee.

She claimed, “I’m here at the police station in Okpoga expecting the bodies, along with troops and other security personnel.”

SP Catherine Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Benue Command, verified the event when contacted.

She sent a text message stating, “The event has been confirmed, however the command has yet to receive specifics from officers who responded to the scene.”
