Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 34 Artillery Brigade neutralised two gunmen and detained four additional members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed branch, Eastern Security Network (ESN), after a heated fire fight on 25 April 2022 near Orlu – Orsu Road.
While on normal patrol, the forces made contact with members of the IPOB/ESN in the approximate vicinity of the Aluminium Company and All Saints Church. When the criminal elements saw the patrol squad, they opened fire and launched grenade attacks on the troops.
The diligent troops replied with superior gunfire, eliminating two criminal groups and driving the other criminal elements to leave in confusion.
Troops apprehended four of the fleeing gunmen and recovered one AK 47 rifle, two magazines, one Police grenade launcher, two Baofeng communication radios, five mobile phones, one IPOB Beret, two motorcycles, four SIM cards, five wallets containing various ID cards, afrodisiac, and charms, and the sum of Sixteen Thousand Four Hundred and Sixty Naira only.
Preliminary examination of the suspects’ mobile phones uncovers graphic images and recordings of cold-blooded killings, bodies placed in shrines, and other horrible atrocities committed by the offenders.
