There was pandemonium in the Offa Garage area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, following a gas explosion that rocked a popular filling station located in the area.
The explosion, which occurred at the gas section of Bovas filling station, left some people injured while trying to escape from the scene.
Residents, commercial motorcyclists, tricycle operators, vendors and other pedestrians scampered for safety running in different directions to escape from the ensuing melee.
One of the eyewitnesses, who also owns a shop close to the filling station, while speaking on the issue, said: “The explosion occurred around some minutes to 11 this morning [Wednesday].
“We just heard a loud bang and smoke taking over the whole filling station, we all scampered for safety not knowing what was happening.
“In the ensuing melee, several people sustained bruises, while some of those in the filling station like hawkers, petrol attendant and those buying fuel were injured,” she stressed.
Another eyewitness said: “The explosion was from the commercial gas plant located inside the filling station.
“It was dispensing and suddenly exploded.
“It was, however, immediately brought under control, although several people sustained varying degrees of injury,” he added.
