Three children and seven adults have been abducted by gunmen at Anguwar Kwankwashe in Suleja, Niger state.
Earlier, nine people were abducted, but two narrowly escaped as they were being led into the bush.
A neighbour, Shehu Abdulkadir, said the incident occurred at 1:35 am on Tuesday when kidnappers armed with AK-47 rifles invaded some houses and a hotel.
According to reports, there were up to 30 kidnappers, some wearing army fatigues.
Even the sound of their gunshot woke me up. “I walked quietly to the window and saw that some of the kidnappers were wearing army uniforms,” a witness said.
The kidnappers allegedly broke into a hotel in the area and abducted a woman and man at gunpoint while shooting sporadically to cause panic.
One vigilante, who preferred anonymity, said he alerted men of the C police division when he heard the sporadic gunshots in the area.
