According to the chief of the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR, the number of individuals fleeing Ukraine since the Russian invasion began has likely surpassed 2.1-2.2 million.

During a visit to Stockholm, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi told a news conference that “the time is now to attempt to aid at the border,” rather than discussing how refugees should be divided between countries.

Grandi went on to say that Moldova, a non-EU member, was particularly susceptible in the current circumstances.
