A fire broke out on Monday afternoon in east London, trapping a woman on the 17th floor.

More than 100 firemen battled the blaze on Whitechapel High Street before rescuing the victim.

Smoke billowed from the burning apartment and office complex, engulfing the capital.

“Our 999 Control Officers took over 50 calls in the early phases,” stated LFB Station Commander Chris Jenner.

“The 17th floor fire trapped a woman.”

Officials claimed the cause of the fire was still unknown.
