In Koto -Karfe Local Government Area of Kogi State, vigilantes arrested multiple bandits as they attacked some villagers at midnight. 11 were killed and many others were arrested.
A member of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has also been detained: Inspector Abdulahi Saidu.
On Friday, bandits stormed the village and attempted to abduct some residents when they were ambushed by vigilantes.
During the operation, three kidnapped victims were also rescued.
At the time of publication, the identity of the NSCDC operative’s friend could not be determined.
The NSCDC officer and his friend provided the bandits with weapons and information to commit their crimes.
The Chief Press Officer to Kogi State Governor Mohammed Onogwu, who confirmed this at a press conference on Sunday in Lagos, said five of the bandits, including the civil defence official, were in the custody of the Department of State Security (DSS) for further investigation.
Onogwu said that such successes by police operatives were a welcome development and proof that the security architecture of Kogi State was strong and solid enough to fight all forms of crime.
Kogi State’s efforts to become the safest state in Nigeria are yielding remarkable results, the governor said.
Also, he noted that security agents are on the trail of kidnappers who reportedly attacked some individuals in Kabba.
The governor said the state government was in touch with security agencies and that the kidnapped must be rescued and the perpetrators apprehended.
