Onitsha’s main market is to be protected by vigilante services from attack by the state of Anambra.

Chief Chinenye Ihenko, Chairman of Anambra North Vigilante Services, gave the assurance to traders at the Onitsha Main Market and its environs.

Traders were alarmed over a report that some unidentified individuals planned to bomb the  market.

Ihenko asserted that no one can bomb Onitsha’s main market and that his men will stand up to any attacker.

“Do your business without fear, because nothing will happen. We are always prepared for anything that may arise. One with God is in the majority, so we are prepared. Do your normal business, he assured.

Onitsha Main Market’s former chairman, Chief Samuel Uzor, has warned  members not to ignore or underestimate the threat.

“We will take all necessary steps to protect and secure Onitsha Main Market. Our vigilantes, led by Chief Chinenye Ihenko, are capable of repelling any attack on the main market,” he said.

Uzor also called on the state government to beef up security in the state, especially in insecure areas.
