After being hit by a truck, a VIO official is fighting for his life. Mr. Udunobun Otaigbe, the Truck Timing Unit Head of the DRTS on the Abuja-Keffi road, is an official of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS).

A truck with a Guinness label driven by Wilson Aniete hit him at the Karu bridge.

The driver of a Mitsubishi truck with registration number AAA 477 XB was allegedly flouting truck timing regulations on the road when the incident occurred on Friday, June 11.

There is a standing directive of the FCT minister that heavy-duty trucks should not be allowed to ply the roads in the morning and evening when workers are on their way to or returning from work.

He was stopped for flouting the directive and parked by the roadside. The suspect, however, is alleged to have suddenly started the vehicle and rammed into the officer who had turned his attention to something else.

Truck drivers, who couldn’t go far because of traffic, were chased by witnesses.

The driver was arrested by members of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and taken to the Karu Police Division.

In the meantime, the VIO official, who sustained a broken leg and bruises on his face and hands, was taken to the hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit of Asokoro District Hospital, Abuja.
