Lagos State Skyscraper Control Agency (LASBCA) general manager Gbolahan Oki said that the owner of Ikoyi’s fallen 21-storey building was only allowed to erect 15 stories.

Oki informed the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) over the phone that the property’s owner had been detained and will be brought to justice for the deaths of the victims of the catastrophe.

“He received clearance for a 15-story skyscraper, which was far beyond his allotted amount of land. While on the ground, I can see how poor and horrible the materials he utilised are.”

“The materials and reinforcement he used are abhorrent. He was given permission to build up to 15 levels, but he ended up going up to 21.

In my opinion, he’s been sequestered somewhere. In the past, he’s been arrested,” he said.

According to the GM, three people died while four were retrieved alive, and rescue attempts are still underway.

As of right now, he stated, “there are four machines operating.”

The structure collapsed, trapping at least 50 people in the debris.

About three o’clock on Monday afternoon, the structure at 20 Gerrard Road succumbed to the elements.
