According to Igwe Maduabuchi Nevobasi, the Ezeani II of Mmaku Kingdom in Enugu State’s Awgu Local Government Area, President Muhammadu Buhari fought for Nigeria’s unity as a young military man and therefore will always be welcome in any region of the nation, especially the Southeast.
The monarch made the remarks Friday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, during a courtesy call on Mr. Femi Adesina, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
Apart from the battle of unification waged by the youthful Buhari, he added, the President had also accomplished many feats for the South East, probably more than any of his predecessors.
“Observe the construction of the Second River Niger Bridge, which is proceeding at a breakneck speed. Enugu International Airport currently boasts a fresh new runway. The Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, the Onitsha-Enugu route, and many others are other notable features of the area.
“We express our gratitude to President Buhari for everything he has accomplished for Nigeria over the last six years. It has not been simple, as there have been many obstacles, most notably security, but the excellent work continues. Igbos will always welcome and support him, and we implore him not to relinquish his efforts to keep the nation together,” the monarch said in a statement released on Saturday by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Deputy Director of the Presidential Communications Office (Information).
Igwe Nevobasi, who conferred President Buhari with the traditional title of Isimmri 1 of Mmaku (Main Source of Water) in 2018, said that he did so “because we respect the man, appreciate his love for nation, and in especially for us in the Southeast.”
He reassured the region’s residents that quiet and tranquility would soon return, as the ancient institution worked diligently to foster reconciliation and soothe tense emotions.
Concerning the upcoming gubernatorial election in Anambra State, the Igwe said that the Federal Government has taken measures to ensure a free and fair election.
He said that as a seasoned military commander, the President should make every effort to guarantee that insecurity was eradicated across the nation.
Adesina, who expressed gratitude to the royal father and his entourage for their visit, informed his principal that his motivation was pure love for the nation and its people.
