Saturday’s chemical explosion at an electronics business in the Hapur area of northern India resulted in at least 10 deaths and 22 injuries, a police officer said.

The disaster occurred at a factory in Dhaulana, some 60 kilometres (37 miles) from the capital, New Delhi, according to police spokesman Surendra Singh.

“The company was registered to manufacture electronic equipment, and it is still being researched whether substances were used,” Singh said.

Accidents in the workplace are widespread in India and are frequently attributed to people disregarding safety regulations and lax inspection by government officials.
