A senior US defense official said on Wednesday that the US has evidence that Russia’s military is bombing Ukraine with so-called “dumb” bombs, which are not precision-guided and have a limited ability to hit targets precisely.

“We do have indications that the Russians are dropping some dumb munitions,” the official said on condition of anonymity, adding that the US was observing “increasing damage to civilian infrastructure and civilian casualties.”

The remarks came shortly after Ukraine accused Russia of bombing a children’s hospital in the besieged port of Mariupol on Wednesday. Russia denies intentionally targeting civilians.
