A security guard was killed in the early hours of Monday at the Qatar Embassy in Paris in an incident with no apparent ties to terrorism, according to a person with knowledge of the inquiry.
Monday morning’s murder of a guard at the Qatar Embassy in Paris was a “heinous and unjustified” act, the embassy said, as French authorities launched an inquiry.
The incident did not appear to have any ties to terrorism, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.
The incident occurred at approximately 06:30 (0430 GMT), according to the source, who added that the suspect had entered the embassy and gotten into an argument with the security guard, who later died after being punched.
The prosecutor’s office announced that a homicide inquiry had been launched today.
The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed the fatality and said that one individual was detained at the scene.
“We await the outcome of the investigation and urge that the deceased’s family’s privacy be respected,” the embassy said.
